Hi everyone!! Thank you for visiting my blog page!
From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. My earliest memories include proudly wielding a toy doctor’s kit, diagnosing my family members, and handing out Skittles as colorful “pills” for whatever ailed them. If only medicine were that simple! While my treatment plans have evolved significantly since those days, the joy of helping others has remained a constant driving force in my life!
Early in life, I developed a deep appreciation for the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit. These values guided me through my undergraduate years at West Virginia University and continued to inspire me through medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and during my residency in Internal Medicine at UPMC Mercy.
Initially, I practiced hospital medicine, where I honed my skills in acute care and managing complex cases. Yet, I found myself yearning for a deeper connection with patients and a chance to address the root causes of chronic disease. That desire led me to primary care, where I discovered the transformative power of Lifestyle Medicine and Culinary Medicine.
Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based approach that uses lifestyle changes—such as improved nutrition, regular physical activity, stress management, and restorative sleep—to prevent, manage, and even reverse chronic diseases. Culinary Medicine, a natural extension of this philosophy, focuses on the intersection of food, nutrition, and health. It equips patients with the tools and knowledge to make informed choices in the kitchen that support their well-being.
This career shift has been deeply rewarding. In primary care, I can build long-term relationships with patients, understanding their unique challenges and empowering them to take control of their health. It’s inspiring to see how even small changes—like incorporating more whole, plant-based foods or finding an enjoyable form of exercise—can lead to profound improvements in health and quality of life.
On a personal note, my journey into Lifestyle and Culinary Medicine took on new meaning when I was diagnosed with a type of diabetes and a rare autoimmune condition. These experiences profoundly shaped my perspective on health and the importance of sustainable lifestyle changes. Navigating my own health challenges has given me a deeper understanding of the struggles many patients face and the resilience required to make meaningful changes. It’s not just about knowing the science; it’s about living it.
As a physician, I am passionate about bridging the gap between science and everyday life. My goal is to make evidence-based recommendations practical and accessible, helping patients embrace sustainable habits that align with their goals and values. Whether it’s through guiding someone to explore new recipes, discussing the latest research on nutrition, or encouraging mindfulness practices, I strive to make health a realistic and achievable journey.
This blog is an extension of that mission. Here, I’ll share insights from my medical practice, explore the latest developments in lifestyle and culinary medicine, and provide tips for making sustainable, health-focused changes in your life. Together, we’ll navigate the intersection of science, food, and wellness—one delicious, life-enhancing step at a time.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to learning and growing with you!
